Coffee Talks with Yvette: When Transition Feels Heavy

This morning, I sat with my coffee warming my hands. I took a few deep breaths and watched the steam rising from the mug. It reminded me to pause before rushing into the day. There are times when transition feels heavy and when life moves us into spaces we never planned to enter.

Sometimes it’s a job change. Other times it’s a shift in relationships or a sudden move. Either way, our souls crave stability. Yet, transitions still seems to shake the ground beneath us.

Jesus understands those moments. He reminds us, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).

When Life Feels Unsettled

I thought about Martha’s story in Luke 10. She welcomed Jesus into her home but quickly became distracted by everything that needed to be done. Her busyness left her tired, frustrated, even resentful. And yet, Jesus gently reminded her of the one thing necessary: sitting in His presence.

Isn’t that the truth about transitions? We rush to fix and figure out what’s next, when God is calling us to slow down and listen.

Choosing What Is Better

In my own seasons of transition, I’ve found that journaling and guided reflection are lifelines. Writing my prayers helps me release what I can’t carry alone. That’s why I’m so grateful for resources like the Winners Win Book Bundle for Women. It gives us encouragement when we feel stuck and space to process what God is stirring in us.

And of course, I love starting my mornings with coffee in my Women Winners mug. Something as simple as sipping slowly while I reflect on scripture has become part of how I anchor my heart.

Living Inspired in the Shift

Here are three ways I’m learning to lighten the load when transition feels heavy:

  1. Pause for a Moment – Take a few minutes before the day begins to breathe, pray, or write.

  2. Name the Distractions – Like Martha, acknowledge what’s pulling your focus, then ask God to show you what really matters.

  3. Choose the Better Portion – Resist the urge to over-manage every detail; instead, choose stillness with Him.

A Reflection for You

Transitions aren’t easy, but they don’t have to overwhelm you. Jesus hasn’t left you to figure it out alone. Just as He gently redirected Martha, He reminds us today that there is a better way. It’s in His presence, not our pressure.

So if you find yourself in the middle of change, take heart. God is already in tomorrow. All He asks is that you sit with Him today.

💜 Until next time…live inspired,
Yvette
